Name: Spooky Gloom
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown, believed to be deceased.
Generation: Friendship is Magic
Species: Unicorn
Location: In an old Victorian on the hilly outskirts of Ponyville
Status: Rumors persisted of a crush on Night Mare Moon.
Appearance: Completely black coat with white/silver highlighted mane and tail which seem to glow in the dark. Mane and tail are both long and hanging low, with the mane parted in the center and draped over one eye. Pale moon colored eyes. Cutie Mark is a white Eye of Horus. Often seen wearing a silver ankh chain necklace and studded anklets around the hooves. [Pic may come soon.] Note: Almost never smiles.
Personality: Spooky was what some ponies might consider grumpy, unhappy, antisocial, or just plain weird. She prefers to keep to herself and her books, fantasizing about the night and silently condemning those who shunned it. Often one who was quick to push people away from her, she was seen as a bit of a hermit.
History: Word around Ponyville speaks of a popular ghost story among the foals to this day; "The Spectre of Spooky Gloom." As the tale goes: There was once a young unicorn who was gifted with magic, allowing her to easily gain access to the prestigious academy within Canterlot; Princess Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns. So pretty and so talented was she, but there was a problem among the other students and some of the faculty; she had a coat black as the starless sky, a particularly bad omen. For this reason alone, the young unicorn was tormented by her peers, and the teachers rarely interfered with the harassment. She drifted away from the rest of the class, her time mostly spent in the libraries, reading books long into the morning, and practicing incantations and rituals supposedly long forgotten, or outright banished. There was even talk of her lovingly invested in the tale of the evil bringer of eternal darkness, though no one could prove these accusations. Even so, she was cast out of the academy, moving to a gated, dilapidated house sitting beside a dead apple tree on the hills, where she stayed for years isolated from Ponyville, never to be seen again. It is said that on the day when she slipped from this mortal coil, she finally gained her Mark: a creepy Arcane Eye to peer over all who may try to harm her, and thus had earned a new name: Spooky Gloom.
Many say she died alone in that house, and that her spirit refuses to pass on because she never had any friends. To that end, she haunts the old house, bringing fear and unhappiness to all her cross her grounds. Backing these rumors is the faint, bluish lights within the house windows at night, and the absence of apples from the furthest trees of Sweet Apple Acres. Ponies young and old never approach the house, even pegasi fly clear around it, inadvertently causing it to attract storm clouds regularly. Only the bravest of foals can claim to have stolen up to the house's gates to peek inside, and even then, this only happens during the sunset and such claims are rare...
Others: As a unicorn, she dabbles in magic. Along with a few rudimentary spells, she has been said to have learned spells that the teachers refuse to speak of to this day; necromancy. Though, this is surely nothing of the sort they have at the school, and only grounded in rumor. Right? (Work in progress; can/will be altered upon Admin request)
Mage Hoof: Minor levitation spell. All unicorns learn this first.
Alter Image: She can reverse her coloration of her coat and mane; unfortunately makes her eyes reversed too, making her look creepier. Thank Celestia for sunglasses.
Dancing Lights: Creates small wisps of light, capable of movement at her will.
Ghost Sounds: Creates ghostly noises which can mimic hushed voices, knocking, hoofsteps, etc.
Wisp Flame: Creates a nonflammable torch fire with a blue, dimmed hue, making it harder to see from a distance, yet providing adequate warmth and lighting within the glow.
Ghastly Image: Creates up to four ghostly ponies, invulnerable to harm but unable to harm anything. Possibly only illusion magic, though they certainly look convincing...
Ethereal Trot: Allows the caster to become incorporeal, allowing her to pass through solid objects. Magic can still affect her, and she must concentrate to use the spell, allowing no other magic to be cast.
Schwartzgeist: Creates manifested incorporeal spirits to serve as guardians. Causes a great deal of magical strain depending on the size or the number of ghosts she animates, potentially harming the caster. Time-consuming ritual. NOTE: Knowledge of this spell has not been confirmed, only rumored; no such evidence has been seen of her casting such high leveled and certainly forbidden magic.
UPDATE: Changed bony-summoning spell to fit more of the spooky-ghosty theme of the character. Now summons ethereal spirits, which may or may not be ACTUAL ghosts, but merely illusory to resemble ghosts. Compliments/apologies to the Skellybone Queen.
Have you read the rules?: Of course I have. But I brought cookies, not scones. Sorry... want a cookie?
