Name: Princess Luna
Gender: Female
Age: Beyond the mortal coil
Generation: FiM
Species: Alicorn
Location: Equestria/Canterlot
Status: An insecure secret.
Appearance: A steadfast and confident Alicorn, with a semi-long horn and a midnight purple coat of fur. Her mane is magical, depicting the very stars she controls and fills the night sky with, constantly flowing with or without a breeze, much like her sister. She is tall and elegant, her Cutie Mark a black mark with an image of the moon illuminating the very center of that darkness.
Personality: She is very happy to be released from the moon, and is often willing to get to know just about anypony that speaks to her. She is out of touch with modern Equestria however, leading her to become very insecure about her mannerisms and behaviors. She's eager to learn though, and does everything she can to learn all about everything she's missed. This has caused her to become something of a hermit within her own castle, constantly reading and studying things most other ponies already know. Overall though, she is friendly and welcomes conversation and social interaction, no matter how unsure she is about herself.
History: Around a thousand years ago, Princess Luna's jealousy and inner turmoil got the best of her, transforming the despondent Alicorn into a terrifying, malevolent pony known as Nightmare Moon. Wishing to make the night last forever as payback for all the ponies that feared her and her dark, but beautiful and artistic night sky and majestic moon, her sister, Princess Celestia, had no choice but to employ the strength of the Elements of Harmony to bring her sister down and seal her within the moon she so coveted for a thousand years, no matter how much the choice agonized Celestia.
This banishment was not permanent, however, for a thousand years later, Nightmare Moon escaped, most of Equestria having forgotten that she had ever existed, her legend becoming more of an old mare's tale than anything else. Celestia's student, Twilight Sparkle, took it upon herself to pursue Nightmare Moon and put a stop to her once and for all, with the help of her new friends from Ponyville.
Deep in the Everfree Forest, at the ancient castle for the Royal Pony Sisters that had been long abandoned, the Elements of Harmony sat dormant, their power untouched for centuries. But when the confrontation began, and Twilight and her friends stood in opposition of Nightmare Moon, the Elements of Harmony chose them, and gave them the strength to finally pacify Luna's anguish once and for all, destroying Nightmare Moon and restoring the renewed Alicorn to her original splendor, albeit weakened for the moment.
Over the course of a year, with Luna's reinstatement as the Princess of the Night, and thus returning the Monarchy to a Diarchy alongside her sister Celestia, she took it upon herself to recover her celestial power and to learn all she could about what had transpired in Equestria during her absence. Night after night was and still is spent studying and learning, her endless fascination with all of these changes constantly being fed with every word, picture and factoid she took in.
Now, after such tireless work, she has finally been accepted as Equestria's true Princess Luna, and has found that there are many ponies that appreciate her night, her stars and her moon. She is finally happy where once there was a void in her heart....and yet, she still has much to learn.
Other: Just as Celestia had Twilight and Spike, Luna has taken on her own protege, one pony by the name of Raver Glow, as well as having her own messenger dragon called Flint!
